OUr City

New Orleans is one of a kind.

Today New Orleans boasts its individuality as the birthplace of Jazz, Cajun culture & cuisine, and the festival of Mardi Gras in America. Saturated in 300 years of culture, history and commerce, it is unlike anywhere else in the United States.

It's sometimes referred to as the "Northern Most Caribbean Island" and for good reason. Having adopted the pace of island life from centuries of African slave and sugarcane trade, the city acts more like a port you'd find somewhere else in the world (one of the main reason's "The Big Easy" is another of its many nicknames).

Beyond the African and Caribbean influence, the flavor of New Orleans also extends from its origin as a French settlement.  Historically Catholic, (with the oldest operating Catholic cathedral in the U.S. sitting in the French Quarter), this spiritual influence has left a massive impression upon the area that still stands today as the dominating organized religious presence in the city.

With all of these contributing factors New Orleans truly is a standalone among the South, and after Hurricane Katrina the changes only furthered.  With the largest mass exodus of population in U.S. history, the city, reeling from the devastation of flooding was opened to an influx of new people that migrated to rebuild.

Today the city has the same heartbeat but is progressively different.  Many areas of the city never recovered and some areas have entirely new population  demographics because of housing developments that came in after The Storm and migration to non-flooded areas.

Though the city’s population has never recovered to pre-Katrina levels, you’ll find a sense of unity and city pride, rivaled by few. For the New Orleans native, loss is a very near reality and for the rest of the city, known to many outsiders as a place to fulfill your wildest desires, there is an overwhelming need for Faithful Expressions of the family of Christ, clear hope from the Message of Jesus, and a Consistency of in loving the city of New Orleans by sharing the life Christ offers.
